Microsoft designed some new Android-based hardware, and it's not at all what you're expecting

Microsoft is presenting Solara as a platform-level, AI-agent-first hardware concept built on Android, not as a concrete product. The initiative centers on specialized AI agents and a flexible user interface that can adapt to context, output, and user needs, rather than a fixed collection of apps. Two reference designs are highlighted: a Nest Hub-like desktop screen and a wearable smart ID badge, signaling a shift toward device ecosystems driven by AI capabilities across business environments such as retail and healthcare. Microsoft is partnering with MediaTek and Qualcomm for silicon, but no commercial devices are planned by Microsoft itself and deployment remains uncertain.
